They say the hardest part is the beginning and they'd be right. I've been trying pretty hard to get back into the habit of writing some of my book everyday, but it's not easy. I miss being able to write a chapter a day, but I know well that in order to do that, I must practice.
Blog posts are different. I mean, yeah, these took practice too, but now I'm at a point where I have about twenty topics lined up to write about, and that's because I took the time to work at it every day. That's what I need to do with my book. I'm simply not the perfect writer and I love to procrastinate like about every other teenager out there. I should be buckling down and doing it, and that takes resolve and work. A lot of work.
Writing eats at my time. Actually, it devours it with greedy gulps and I don't even realize. I'll start a chapter at ten in the morning and when I look up, it's suddenly noon and my stomach is demanding food. So yes, writing is a very time consuming career to have, which may be why I'm a little nervous doing this again.
I also get distracted by other writing projects. They aren't as big as a book, but they take time and thought as well. I do think, however, that it's okay to have more then one project going. I don't believe you should really have more then two because then you can get inconveniently stressed out. One side project is fine because that way if you get bored with one, you can go to the other and work on that. When you come back to your bigger project, you have a fresh outlook on things.
Tips from a master procrastinator:
1) Set yourself a goal ever day, week, ect., and live up to it
2) Avoid multiple side projects. Seriously.
3) Ask others to help keep you accountable.
4) Eat right, drink lots of water, and work out. It keeps that writing mind of yours active and alert.
5) Don't freak over the little details, okay? You'll have time to smooth it over.
As for any updates I may have on my book, I have three chapters completed and I'm planning to get two more done this week. It's coming along smoothly, and I know what I'm going to do with it.
The meeting with my editor may take place tomorrow. It's not rock solid yet, but once it happens, I'll share my information with y'all!
Until next time! Happy Monday!
